WP may have a problem as two things make Harpreet Singh a weaker candidate than originally believed

His CV may be impressive but betrays two weaknesses that might backfire.

A successful lawyer and senior counsel of the Supreme Court of Singapore, Harpreet Singh has been widely portrayed as the shining star of Workers' Party updated lineup for the coming General Election.

Rumours about him running with the opposition started swirling during his first walkabouts in 2023 and in recent days he was the party's only face visible in the media, including an interview in the Straits Times, when WP has declined CNA's request to speak with its other candidates as well.

Workers' Party has certainly been looking for someone who could make a splash similar to Jamus Lim 5 years ago, when his TV appearance in the final days of campaign likely played a critical role in flipping Sengkang GRC.

However, Harpreet Singh's CV, as impressive as it might be (given the otherwise lacklustre quality of local opposition members), betrays two weaknesses that make him less than ideal candidate – both for the party and for Singapore, if he is elected.
