I have to say some Singaporean politicians and "activists" seem to have entered a competition for the dumbest take on Russian invasion in Ukraine. Here's Chee Soon Juan comparing Sinfapore to… Russia.Yes yes, he's really implying that Singapore is in many ways like Russia and so its leaders can "go rogue" just like Putin just has.
Let's make that clear - Singaporean government is being compared to Russian dictatorship murdering civilians across the neighboring border, threatening the world with nuclear weapons, censoring all media from using certain words when covering the war and arresting thousands who protest against it.I've seen many power hungry political wannabes but drawing parallels like these must be the peak of mental gymnastics of populism. I really cannot fathom what must be going through a mind of a person telling these things.Somehow the irony of CSJ being able to even peddle rubbish like this across public channels with no repercussions like getting a dose of Novichok or polonium, still running his cafe (the first job he had in decades) or being able to walk home at night without the risk of getting gunned down like Boris Nemtsov, is totally lost on him and his supporters.
If anything, it seems that he is the sort of a person who will stop at nothing in quest for power - including nauseating allegations such as these, using blood of thousands of innocent victims half the world away to score political points at home.
Makes me want to vomit.
