A promising run-up to the GE ends with a Nomination Day disaster for the Workers’ Party

Glowing headlines of the past few weeks sound hollow today.

For the first time since the seminal 2011 election, when the Workers' Party won its first GRC in Aljunied, there is going to be a walkover in one of Singapore's constituencies – a valuable Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.

This last minute twist before the GE is nothing short of a disaster for the Workers' Party, which has thus far enjoyed very positive press ahead of the election.

And it's not about simply losing one of the GRCs but what the decision to abandon it says about the party itself.
