Lee Hsien Yang just couldn't help himself and dragged 38 Oxley Road drama even into his supposedly dear sister's death.
Ostensibly asked by her to make the statement upon her passing, I think we can all agree that there was a better time to make it if it indeed was her request – and we know we can't really trust the man who was found to have lied both in public and under oath.
But even if we assume that was the case – couldn't it have waited for a few days?
What is even more telling is how both brothers responded to her passing, as evidenced by what they wrote about her in public.
Lee Hsien Yang limited himself to two announcements regarding her death and funeral arrangements, before the Oxley Road post.
There was no public eulogy, no fond memories of happy times spent together. Just dry, cold, bureaucratic efficiency of publishing the necessary announcements before reminding the nation of the family conflict everybody is pretty tired of by now.
Lee Hsien Yang has told us exactly nothing about his sister, that he was supposedly so sad about leaving in Singapore when he cashed out and left for the UK. All he seems to have cared about was taking advantage of the situation to launch his next assault, knowing how much more attention it would get now, given the circumstances.
Lee Hsien Loong, on the other hand, penned a heartfelt post, reminiscing their youth and eulogising his sister's character and achievements, regardless of their ultimate differences, which he candidly touched on as well.
With cynical disregard for how inappropriate his behaviour would be, Lee Hsien Yang single-handedly destroyed the facade of a loving brother that he tried to portray himself to be.
Everything continues to be about him.
