Exactly two years after Workers’ Party’s biggest scandal, we’re still waiting for answers

Ownself check ownself?

Exactly two years ago, on May 26 of 2023, Singapore's Workers' Party officially expelled its former NCMP Assoc. Prof. Daniel Goh. This, not Raeesah Khan's lies, is by far the biggest scandal involving WP – and yet nobody seems to be bothered.

Where the hell are domestic journalists, who should be demanding accountability of the largest opposition party in the country?

Daniel Goh was expelled over two social media posts from 2021, when he expressed his concerns and criticism of the WP leadership's handling of the Khan affair. If anything, his comments can be understood as worry about the party's image and its future, tarnished by RK's lies and their subsequent mishandling by the leaders.

Just read them for yourself:

This was followed by the party officially convening a disciplinary committee to look into Daniel Goh. Yes, he was treated the way Raeesah was for merely asking questions about the conduct of the leaders:

Ultimately it ended with expulsion in 2023:

Can you imagine what the uproar would be if the PAP did that?

Let's just replace the names. What if Lee Hsien Loong was found to have known for two months about an MP's scandalising lies, did nothing about them, then told him it was "his call" to tell the truth and ultimately threw him under the bus only when police came knocking?

And when a concerned PAP member raised questions on social media, he would be investigated by a disciplinary panel and expelled from the party - with no statement from the leadership, denying comments to the media?

The country would melt down in protest. "How does he dare silence dissenting voices! Why doesn't he answer questions! We demand transparency! Ownself check ownself!"

And yet, with Daniel Goh, there's nothing. Is nobody upset? Seriously?WP just declined any requests for comment and the media went along with it. Everybody seems to have forgotten.

What the hell?

This is ten times worse than Raeesah. Because it's a public humiliation and expulsion of a member who did nothing but express concern about an affair that shook the party and ultimately led its very leader to court.

The very same who kicked him out.

Prof. Goh was right to ask questions, and his questions should have been answered. But they never have been. And now the same people who committed this political assassination are still in the parliament talking about accountability and transparency. What a pathetic joke.

Remember this date, 26th of May, and keep reminding the Workers' Party that it is in no position to serve its public role if it can't come clean about silencing dissenting voices in its own ranks.
